EVENT : Drift West Round 1
The Inaugural round of the Drift West series started off at Strato tech park on a gloomy Saturday morning. While it was a new series to western Canada, it was still business as usual.
Mini Feature: So Fresh and So Clean
This is more of a mini feature, just a few shots. Unfortunately and fortunately I was driving at the event, so taking pictures was a little difficult. I did however manage to grab some shots of the Drift Union/DTA cars before the chaos began. If you know Drift Union, then you know snapping pictures at the beginning of the year is important. These guys drive hard and by the end of season the cars have swapped out the new aero and fresh paint for broken panels and battle scars. If you are wanting to know more about these cars, fear not. There will be full individual features of each car coming through out the summer, so you can see whats going on under all the body panels. Enjoy!
Event Coverage: That New New
Feature: A Piece of Racing History
One of my favorite cars that I was able to see at Sema this year was the 1990 Mazda RX-7 IMSA GTO which was sitting in the Mazdaspeed booth. Unless you knew the history behind this car you would walk past thinking it was just another track made FC RX-7 with a modified 13B engine underneath the hood.
Local Ride: Evan’s JDM FC
These days it seems, when you want more power in a rotary, the thing to do is just get rid of it all together and swap in a V8. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good v8 swap and can definitely see the benefits. But I know plenty of people will agree with me when I say there is nothing like the scream of a big turbo/ported rotary! One of those people is Evan Bahr, and this is his 1990 JDM Mazda RX7 FC.
Event: Pacific Grand Prix Open Day
As promised, here are some of the shots I managed to grab during my time at Pacific Grand Prix. Being that I first drifted on a cart track, I felt almost at home at PGP. It’s beautiful landscaping and unique backdrop make it a great time. Not to mention the cars sliding around on it. There were many drivers, all of them with their own driving styles and skill levels, this made it a great watch. As always, I like to keep things simple. So pictures it is!
WWW: Blown Away
So this past Friday a few of us met and the weather was less than pleasant. It was super windy out, maybe even dangerously windy but we toughed it out. While we were all being heroes of the parking lot a manged to grab a few shots some of those being wheel pics.
Random Vid: So Thats Where Mad Mike Is
If your following the Formula Drift series you will have noticed that Mad Mike wasn’t at Long Beach this year. They say it was because of prior commitments. Here is a video of him drifting up a SuperCar Track in Hamilton. Maybe this is what he was doing? The sound of the MADBUL RX7 is just amazing.
WWW: Wacky Wheels in all their Majesty
As this past weekend was Majestics here in Regina, I thought I would post some wheels from the event.
Store Spotlight: RHD Japan
When we were in Vegas for the SEMA show, one shop I wasn’t expecting to see was RHD Japan. In fact, I almost walked right by it. It was only when Ryan poked me, motioned towards the booth and said, “Hey, check it out!” that I saw this little gem of SEMA.
